Phoenix Heart was designed by Richard Garfield (the designer of Magic: The Gathering) as a celebration of his marriage to his wife, Koni. Richard distributed copies of this card to family, friends, and select business colleagues.
Richard commissioned Magic fan-favorite artist Drew Tucker to create the illustration for Phoenix Heart. Drew’s painting depicts Richard and Koni in battle together under a phoenix-heart-sun-filled sky.
